Notes

Benevolence is currently the strongest starting item for supports. Thebes is a pretty decent item, so starting into it with a bunch of potions allows you to poke, box or be aggressive.

PASSIVE - When your Ultimate ability has finished casting, you gain a Shield equal to 90% of your Protections from items and abilities for 5s. When destroyed, by timing out or being depleted, it explodes and deals Magical damage equal to 75% of the Shield’s initial Health and slows targets by 25% for 3s. This can only occur once every 45 seconds.

Notes

Second items is often based on their compositions and performance. If you are facing their mage, support and they are being dominant, you can go first into magical defence. Heartward or Pestilence are both great. If they have a bunch of slows, you can grab Winged Blade or Witchblade for double-hunter scenarios. If you are diving or being doven, build Emperors. It could be a great third item, if there are still many structures remainig. I wouldn't recommend building it afterwards. If you think your team can benefit from more attack speed, Shoguns is a good alternative for magical protections. Breastplate or other CD items are great, if you have a lead over the enemy support or team. Being able to taunt more frequently and force relics would be well appreciated. Late game items could be Travelers, Midguardian, Talisman, Pridwen. Keep in mind, Benevolence as starter is great but falls of for a late game item, so you can replace it last.

Athena has an easy time countering these and other gods. Being able to interrupt channelling abilities, such as Ares flames, can reduce enemy damage output significantly.
