Welcome to my arena guide for Ares.

With this guide, I hope to share some insight on why Ares is far and above one of the best gods in arena.

Some ideas to keep in mind with Ares as a god, this build, and your role on the team in Arena.

Ares is an initiator and is the best at it in Arena. Wait until 3+ of the enemy team is clumped together then Blink, ult, and watch your team clean up. Fighting almost exclusively around your initiation will make winning the game significantly easier. Communication with your team is key.

This aura-only build allows Ares' presence to be relevant in team fights after his ult. Your items are still giving your team the advantage offensively and defensively.

Using this item applies a shield to himself and allies within 35 units for 100 Health + 12 Health per God Level for 3 seconds. Additionally, all allies take 20% reduced damage from Basic Attacks while the shield is active. Cooldown - 150s.

Notes

ALWAYS buy blink, the second relic is open for debate. I prefer the shield because it helps my team survive here and there.

Notes

Notably, all items give an aura. We like this for two reasons, it gives Ares free Magic Power from the passive, and it will either help your team or hurt the enemy team. Since the map is small, you'll usually be able to effect every player in the teamfight with the auras. Remember to add +30 Magical Power to all items because of his passive.

No boots - Typically you'd buy Boots of Focus (CDR), but I find some of the stats unimportant. The mana is useless most of the time. Sometimes you do run out of mana in a sustained team fight, but generally you won't notice the lack of mana if you're somewhat conservative. Witchblade gives Health (best stat) and the aura not only makes physical enemies worse, it also gives you 30 Magic Power from Ares' passive. In the end you trade 8% move speed, 25 Magic Power, and mana for HP, and a debuff for the enemy team.

Gauntlet of Thebes - Balanced stats, effective against all enemy teams. Getting it early allows for easy stacks.

Sovereignty & Heartward Amulet - nothing to discuss. Swap the Sov. and HA order if the enemy team is Mage heavy.

Pythagorem's Piece - it has stats we like and it gives stats your teammates like. I get this before Void Stone because it helps everyone on your team (instead of mages only), plus the protections from Void Stone isn't critical at this point in the game.

Void Stone - 90% of the time this will be your last item. It has stats we like plus it boosts your mages' damage. I'll explain the exceptions to this item below, but when in doubt get this item.

Situational Builds:

If the enemy team is physical or magical heavy, do not follow the build verbatim. Remove either Sovereignty or Heartward Amulet and replace it with something below. Always counter the enemy team with the appropriate protection items. Damage items are last, if ever.

PASSIVE - Enemies hit by your damaging abilities will move 30% Slower and will have Shields applied on them reduced by 50% for 2.5 seconds. This can only occur once every 2.5 seconds.

Relic

Relic

Relics provide special powers available to all gods. Your first Relic is free at Level 1 and your Second Relic is unlocked once you reach Level 12.

Notes

Here's a few different items I consider while playing depending on the enemy team. I put all the relevant relics you could buy second depending on the enemy team and your team. When in doubt get Magic Shell or Beads.

Mystical Mail - This is great against a physical heavy team. I don't consider this item unless they have at least 3 Physical (and threatening) gods.

Oni Hunter's Garb - I've never bought this, but it will probably make you an unstoppable tank.

Shogun's Kusari - Buy this if you want your Physical allies to have a good time.

Gem of Isolation - Buy this if you want to have a good time.

Max [2] first, then [1], then [3]. Put points into [4] whenever possible.

Not much to say here. Your [2] gives free protections and is amazing in team fights, do not overlook this ability.
