There is a lot to say, and on later lists as things move around I think I will actually make specific comments on every god being placed. For now though, I want to provide a few of the important notes about the meta and my thoughts on it while specifying how the tier list works. It is my understanding that tiers are not super defined to a lot of smite players and I want to be clear what each tier means.
NotesThe Support Meta seems to be revolving around gods with strong pick off potential (barring Yemoja who is almost always banned and rightfully so). The two gods that tend to get played in support the most are Sobek and Kuzenbo. Given this blink heavy support meta I have to ask where has the Geb and Athena play been? Geb's shield remains one of the strongest abilities in the game, virtually unchanged in six years, and it would be a great boon against the aggressive pick based guardian meta.
God Specific Notes -
Aphrodite has seen a lot less play then she merits, despite the healing nerf the thing that put her over the edge of balance in the first place was the increase in damage to her birds by giving it an initial hit.
Please just revert Bastet, she is both less fun and somehow worse after her rework.
Cupid seems over valued to me, he matches up decently against the Rama and provides a lot to team fights but I think the way he's being played other hunters could perform better.
Da Ji remains severely undervalued, her damage is insane and she has great match ups against a lot of the mages and hunters currently considered strong. I think part of the reason certain characters are in meta right now in the first place is because they don't have to deal with anyone playing Da Ji.
Freya remains overvalued as she has been since her reversion, she's really not terribly strong right now and hasn't been.
Hel might seem more valuable then A tier, and I might agree, if Paul and Sheento weren't the only players using her. Both have had amazing performances though and I think she could go up.
As always, Janus should be played more, but you can go back and say that at any point on the timeline since his initial buffs after release.
This is obviously before the Loki rework.
Raijin and Merlin both seemingly fell off the face of the Earth, the former makes sense to me as I felt he was being played too much even before his most recent nerfs and the nerfs kind of took pros away from him as a comfort pick. Merlin on the other hand is still quite strong despite his nerfs, especially his ability to defend at phoenix.
Serqet could move down further soon, her nerfs hit her terribly hard. She's in an awkward position in which she demands power in order to deal any damage at all even with her ultimate which means that building into mobility or tankiness isn't extremely viable but crit also isn't at the best place in this meta. She can't really afford to be as squishy as she had to build if she can't also build movement items like Relic Dagger.
Ullr play has been surprisingly rare, his nerfs in May were fairly minor considering the god almost always builds Transcendence anyways. He plays two roles very well and the axe stun is still insanely easy to land, meaning his full combo is still ridiculously strong.
Item Specific Notes -
Dev's Gloves doesn't seem like the correct play to me for Hunters, at least not to the degree that we are seeing it. Bloodforge as a later item seems inherently more valuable if for no other reason then the survivability it grants Hunters with its shield.
The Sledge is insane, don't really need to tell you that if you've been keeping up. This is the item that Masamune wanted to be, insanely valuable and probably merits a nerf of some kind.
Silverbranch Bow, characters that take advantage of how strong this item is should be played more I.E characters like Apollo
ss
The SS tier are gods that demand a ban every game and letting one through will 99% of the time make you lose a game. There haven't been many SS gods in Smite's history and most of the time they have struck down quickly with nerfs.
s+
These are the top priority gods, banned in almost every game and certainly first picked if they get through the bans. The meta tends to be shaped around the top gods, certain characters might be considered stronger simply because they have some counter potential against these highest of picks.
s
S tier gods are the priority in their respective roles, you're more likely to see these gods be banned rather then played but when they do get through they should be making up the majority of the team composition where possible.
s-
This tier is unnecessary and won't be used in my tier lists.
a+
This next layer of gods makes up characters that are slightly stronger than average/balanced, these gods are unlikely to be banned unless its against a specific player but will make up a lot of the teams you face.
a
These gods are (for the most part) balanced, making up the middle of the pack and filling in roles. Again, these are gods you won't likely see banned unless they are meant to block the comfort picks of a certain player but they have plenty of merit in their own roles. While these gods are solid enough to give them a place in most team compositions, the sheer number of them merits some consideration in choosing the right one (or a higher tier pick).
a-
For all intents and purposes I would consider this tier to be "B+". So where B tier is a tier made up of gods that fit on specific compositions and require certain counters to be dealt with or banned, B+ gods are a slightly softer version of this. These gods can be played normally but benefit greatly from having certain counters removed or certain help from teammates.
b
Gods in this tier are not bad per se, but require assistance from the team to function or require certain opponents to be in or out of the game.
c
These are gods that for the most part shouldn't be played at high level, if you're an exceptional player of these gods you may find some use since opponents will likely not know the match up if the god has been out of favor for some time but unless you are an absolute master of these gods you should probably pick something else.
d
Should not be picked, no real reason to do so. Similar to SS, there have been very few D tier gods in Smite's history. And God help your team if you pick one.
