The name of the game is D A M A G E M I T I G A T I O N. At full build, once all your effects proc, there's gonna be a brief period where you experience peak Manliness. You'll be at 36% damage reduction (46% if you have Upgraded Blink) on top of your existing protections, and have a large health pool that you'll be able to constantly replenish thanks to your maxed out cooldown reduction. When your enemy tries to lock you down, on top of your partial ability to ignore CC thanks to your W, you'll have 40% CC reduction, and being CCed in the first place will give you damage reduction.

Manly Stats: 3120 health, 251 Physical Protection/223 Magical Protection (296/258 after a boosted Taolu Assault), 60.6 HP5 without Gaia proc, 40% Cooldown Reduction, and 40% CC reduction, with a potential 36% damage mitigation under ideal conditions and 21% damage mitigation under normal conditions.
Add Meditation Cloak in and your cooldowns basically don't exist while it's active due to all the ways Guan can reduce them through his kit, so you're spamming 255 heal bursts to your whole team constantly. Even without it, if you're going through your rotations well and landing your abilities, your 8.4 second cooldown heal is functionally going to have a 4.4 second cooldown, meaning you practically have over 300 HP5 to go with your insane durability. Your damage might be lacking, but you'll be able to massively impact fights through protection shredding, taking up space, locking down with your ult, and just overall messing with the enemy team while absolutely refusing to die.
Taolu Assault lets you become even more manly on top of the manliness you already have, so there's no reason not to maximize it from the start. Warrior's Will and Conviction should be evenly distributed, so you have a good mix of damage and sustain. Go for Warrior's Will, then Conviction if you're ahead, or Conviction first if you're having a rough time.
Manly men don't have bad matchups.
