Notes

Warriors Blessing - Standard for solo laners

Chalice of Healing - High value to start the game as solo lane

Healing Pot x5 - Allows you to out brawl other solo laners as set's baseline from his 1 is higher than most gods even if they start with a Mace

Teleport Glyph - Great synergy with Chalice of Healing, you can get back to lane without missing a wave

PASSIVE - You permanently gain 15 Mana per Stack, and receive 5 Stacks for a god kill, and 1 Stack for a minion kill (max. 50 stacks). You gain Physical Power equal to 2% of your Maximum Mana. At 50 stacks this item Evolves, gaining 10% Cooldown Reduction.

Notes

With your early game damage and excellent wave clear you should be able to out trade your opponent and easily control Totem of Ku a majority of the start. Your Skewer damage should be easy to line up on the god and wave. Your first back should be around level 4-5 preferably after using your ult, in which I recommend buying Warrior Tabi. +40 Power is a huge spike as your skewer will now easily bully your opponent back to under the protection of his tower. Often you can start Jotun's when you back for boots as you have the extra gold from Totem and stealing the enemies blue buff due to the pressure your skewer puts out.

Why Jotun's and not Crusher or Stone Cutting Sword? I prefer Jotun's because 20% Cool-down reduction allows you to put out more spawns of set and spam Skewer more often. More spawns mean faster wave clear and burst damage which if you have the mechanical skill is quite easy to land. I find that ability based set creates more space to snowball early and when facing pesky mages like Zhong Kui allow you to damage them outside of their spell range. Similar match ups like Erlang Shen you can damage him outside of boxing range and then have more hp to go in for the kill with your ult when he is low. Why do less damage and take more damage in the process?

Feeding into your burst & poke play style is Transcendence. It is synergistic with Set very well as his wave clear is nearly un-matched. Adding huge burst to your Skewer is always a plus as well as MP5 and CDR putting you at 30% CDR at around 12-15 minutes which is a scary thing. Also set can run into mana issues so the extra 1,000 mana is helpful.

Mid Game

PASSIVE - While over 25% Mana, you gain +10% Cooldown Reduction. While under 25% Mana, you gain +50 MP5.

Notes

Mid game items are dependent on who you are laning against and what your team needs. If you are out of control and stomping everyone go Crusher as the +15 Penetration along with the bleed effect will turn your poke into shred and allow you to regularly 1v2 enemies. If you are ahead but feel less secure or like you are being focused in team fights grab Blackthorn Hammer. Blackthorn gives you a solid +35 power while the +350 HP allows you to brawl a little more with characters like Erlang or survive burst from mages like He-Bo. In addition the mana regeneration from the passive will allow you to never run out of mana...... ever.

Sometimes I will forgo both and grab Brawler's Beatstick against popular solo laners like Zhong Kui, Hercules, Chaac, and King Arthur. I generally grab Brawler's second out of the items in this tier but if you are struggling and your opponent is a gladiator's sheild noob, take Brawler's first and laugh because he has a useless item. Brawler's is also great during teamfights and synergises well with your low cool downs due to Jotun's and Trancendence. You can easily have healing reduction up on 3-4 targets the entire team fight if not the entire team. Also you will have 40/50 close to the penetration cap allowing you to shred through enemy defenses like butter.

Blink at level 12 is self explanatory, allowing you to play more aggressively by blinking in killing a back line player then sand storming out. You can also take beads if the enemy team have God's like Ares but you should always ban Ares anyways!

PASSIVE - While over 75% Health, you gain +25 Physical Power. While under 75% Health, you gain +40 Protections.

Notes

Late game I prefer straight Utility items as your damage will already be insane withe the items listed earlier. We focus on survival, allowing you to stay in the fight longer once you do decide to teleport in with Sandstorm. If the enemy team has high magical damage or you find yourself getting 1 shot by Poseidon's and He-Bo's Bulwark of Hope is your go to item. +60 magic protections +250 HP a -20% CC reduction are all amazing for Set at this point in the game. While it is more selfish then going an aura item for the team, the 350 HP shield will allow you to survive the all in burst that good teams will put into you in a 5v5 fight, especially when taking phoenix's.

If you want overall defense and find yourself getting chained with crowd control Spirit Robe is a solid option. 15% damage mitigation on a 15 second cool down means you can stay in the fight longer. Not my favorite item because it has more synergy with Auto Attack set/Jungle Set build then mine. Still not a bad choice. I just prefer the huge shield from Bulwark.

Our third late game option is Shifter's Sheild! This item is crazy with Set's kit as you get a massive +70 power while poking, with the rest of your build this allows you to put out INSANE damage without getting a scratch on you. If +70 power is not enough, when you are looking to disengage or sandstorm blink out of a fight after when you are low Shifter's gives you a whopping +70 protections total. Offense when you need it and defense for your escape, all for the bargain price of 2400 gold. I often will buy this first in this tier if the enemies don't have heavy burst damage.

PASSIVE - On Basic Attack hits, deal Physical Damage equal to 1.5% of the target's maximum Health. If the target has over 2250 Health, the bonus damage scales up. This effect reaches a maximum of 6% of the targets Maximum Health at 2750 Health.

Notes

Relic Dagger I have not tested, but as a replacement for boots it makes sense. +300Hp makes you tanky +10% speed is always a bonus and 10% CDR will put you at the CDR cap. Also more blinks or beads is crucial endgame and can throw your enemies off guard if they don't notice you built Relic Dagger.

Runic Shield if you are still having issues with magical damage after Bulwark of Hope then this may be beneficial against a multi guardian team as they will be the ones trying to peel you off the back line.

Quin Sais provides you the same amount of power but bonus attack speed which will help you take objectives late game and provide big damage against high HP foes. Crucial to counter gods like Sobek, Fafnir and Kumbhakarna which are played often on ladder.

Gladiator's Sheild while I would not buy this late game it may prove to be beneficial if you are getting bodied by a warrior like King Arthur in the early game. Personally I don't buy it as Jotun's is more Power, Pen and CDR. If you are playing properly outside the Warrior's boxing range you won't need glad's which sets you ahead of all the other solo laners in the meta currently. I am including it as a courtesy to those who swear by the item.

Max your 1 then your 2 then Ult then 3.

If you level mid fight and your ult is on cool down for awhile, consider putting a point elsewhere to get a slight boost in damage mid fight.

Set generally has a neutral or favored match up against every god played in the solo lane currently. If you and your opponent have the same mechanical skill you should win the laning phase.

Weak Against

Notes

Set struggles with high magic burst if caught diving or out of position. This is what makes set extremely skill based as a god. You must know what abilities have been used who has beads and aegis and when to dive in for the kill. Equally important is knowing when to get out, trying to box with my build after your ult is down is a bad idea.

He-Bo can combo you and 2 shot you before you get Bulwark of Hope. Once you get it you can laught in his face as you easily kill him without your ultimate.

Ares can punish you pre-level 12 as you won't have beads, I almost always ban Ares as his jungle rotations between levels 5-12 can really mess you up.

Kuzembo will try to silence you with his grab, wait until he uses this ability or dive an enemy as far away from him in the fight as you can. Also don't Skewer into him with his 2 up and thorns, you WILL ONE SHOT YOURSELF! I've done it :[

Poseidon is annoying through out the game as his whirlpool + kracken combo will kill you before Bulwark of Hope. Again prioritize bulwark if Poseidon is focusing you out with his ult. Have your team tracking his ult at all times to give you the information you need to decide on who to dive. Without his ult you stomp him, you can even kill him without teleporting just with sand clones and skewer.

Hera again can one shot you pre bulwark, not as easily as the others on this list as she must have her ult and land her full combo but still be careful pre bulwark and track her ult vigorously.

Cupid made the list just because of his ultimate cripple field. Again you shouldn't be diving a full hp cupid, poke him down and only dive him to finish the job. You can kill him inside his ult but you will take big damage if he knows how to land his heart bomb. My suggestion, poke until his ult is down then clean him up. Often 1 skewer with a clone or two will send poor Cupid scurrying back to base. As a general tip don't try to 1v1 ADC's your level before poking them down. Follow the theme of our build, don't take damage unless you have too. Play outside auto attack range and ADC's are useless against you.
